MPS Hosts SP 2nd Quarter Meeting – June 2011

On June 7, SP held its 2nd Quarter Membership Meeting in conjunction with the National Environmental Sustainability Summit (NESS) in Detroit, MI. Over 100 participants attended the meeting, which was hosted by SP member MPS Group. Special thanks to Heather Cataldo and Steve Ciaverilla, MPS Group, for their assistance in coordinating and hosting the meeting.

Benjamin Teitelbaum, Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), opened the meeting with a presentation on CEC’s new report Destination Sustainability: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Freight Transportation in North America. Following Mr. Teitlebaum’s presentation, SP’s Vice-Chair, Russell Brynolf, FTS Technologies, and SP’s Executive Director, Steve Hellem discussed SP’s 2011 Strategic Plan and the key activities the organization plans to focus on in the coming year.

During the meeting, Lee Hachigian, Director of GM Real Estate and Facilities, Energy and Environment, presented GM’s 6th Annual Environmental Excellence Award to Mobile Fluid Recovery for providing unique recycling ideas and collaborating on projects like turning oil-soaked booms from the Gulf of Mexico into Chevrolet Volt components. “The relationships forged in the Suppliers Partnership group were a driving factor in creating a sustainable way to help in Gulf clean-up efforts,” said Trevis Lyon, Vice President, Mobile Fluid Recovery.
