SP 4th Quarter Meeting - November 8, 2011 |
On November 8, the Suppliers Partnership
for the Environment (SP) held its 4th Quarter Membership
Meeting in Detroit, Michigan which was co-hosted by Goodwill
Industries of Greater Detroit and EQ
- the Environmental Quality Company. Over
60 representatives from the automotive supply chain participated
in the meeting. Special thanks to Kathy Laird
and Consandra Allen of Goodwill,
and Kelly McInnis, Jeff Roberts,
Bob Doyle and Amy Jo Haratyk
of EQ for their assistance in coordinating
and hosting the meeting.

SP 2nd Quarter Meeting - June 2011 |
On June 7, SP held its 2nd Quarter
Membership Meeting in conjunction with the National
Environmental Sustainability Summit (NESS) in Detroit,
MI. Over 100 participants attended the meeting, which
was hosted by SP member MPS Group. Special
thanks to Heather Cataldo and Steve
Ciaverilla, MPS Group, for their assistance in
coordinating and hosting the meeting.
Benjamin Teitelbaum, Commission
for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), opened the
meeting with a presentation on CEC's new report Destination
Sustainability: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from
Freight Transportation in North America. Following Mr.
Teitlebaum's presentation, SP's Vice-Chair, Russell
Brynolf, FTS Technologies, and SP's Executive
Director, Steve Hellem discussed SP's 2011 Strategic
Plan and the key activities the organization plans to
focus on in the coming year. More information on SP's

During the meeting, Lee Hachigian, Director
of GM Real Estate and Facilities, Energy and Environment,
presented GM's 6th Annual Environmental Excellence Award
to Mobile Fluid Recovery for providing
unique recycling ideas and collaborating on projects like
turning oil-soaked booms from the Gulf of Mexico into
Chevrolet Volt components. "The relationships forged
in the Suppliers Partnership group were a driving factor
in creating a sustainable way to help in Gulf clean-up
efforts," said Trevis Lyon, Vice President,
Mobile Fluid Recovery.

SP Announces 5 New Member Companies |

The Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP) today
announced that five companies have joined the organization:
Albemarle Corporation, BAE Industries,
Inc., Energy Design Service System, Inc.
(EDSS), GDC Inc. and Haley
& Aldrich, Inc.
SP Chair Randy Leslie, Vice President and General Manager,
Johnson Controls, Inc., Automotive Experience, stated,

identify new and more environmentally efficient and creative

SP Energy and Water Work Group Breakfast
Meeting - May 3, 2011 |

On May 3, SP's Energy and Water Work Group
hosted a breakfast meeting on Strategies in Energy Program
Management and Available Resources for Manufacturers.
SP's
Energy and Water Work Group Co-Chairs Mark Werthman,
Chrysler Group LLC and Rahul Naik,
ARCADIS, opened the meeting and discussed
the mission and vision of the Work Group. SP's Membership
Chair, Adam Westerdale, General
Oil Company, then provided an overview of SP and
the value of SP membership. Click

The meeting featured a presentation from SP member Bill
Allemon, ARCADIS, on Managing
the Manufacturing Energy Team: Strategies in Energy Program
Management. Bill discussed energy management basics,
energy management business models, agency energy programs
such as EnergyStar and Save Energy Now, and utility rebate
programs. Following Bill's presentation, the participants
discussed energy program managment strategies and resources,
including the upcoming ISO 50001 energy management standard,
as well as upcoming regulatory updates with a potential
impact on energy efficiency.
The meeting also featured presentations from Gerald
Polk, DTE Energy and David
MacDonald, Consumers Energy on energy efficiency
programs and resources available to Michigan based commercial

SP 1st Quarter Meeting - January 13, 2011 |
On January 13, SP held its 1st Quarter Membership
Meeting in the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit,
MI. Over 100 participants attended the meeting, which was
hosted by SP members Asset Recovery & Management
Group and GM.
SP
was very pleased to have Steve Owens, Assistant
Administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution
Prevention (OCSPP), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
participate in the Membership Meeting. Mr. Owens discussed
areas of focus for OCSPP, including pollution prevention
activities, chemical safety and improving processes under
the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Assistant Administrator
Owens noted the EPA's interest in continuing to support
industry partnership programs such as Design for the Environment,
E3: Economy, Energy and Environment and SP, and noted that
"one of our flagships is this program here [SP]."
He continued, "This group has been doing tremendous
work with Tom [Murray, US EPA]."

The meeting also featured presentations on sustainable
practices / programs from SP members Ford, GM
and Chrysler; a presentation from guest
speaker Martin Chilcott, 2degrees; an update

Group and Haley & Aldrich Inc.

On December 9, SP's Chair Randy Leslie, Johnson
Controls, SP member Kathleen Laird, Goodwill
Green Works Inc. and SP liaison, Tom Murray,
EPA were speakers at the Department of Commerce's
Sustainable Manufacturing American Regional Tour (SMART):
"Energy Efficient, Sustainable Detroit" that was
held at DTE Energy's offices in Detroit, MI. They were all
part of a panel that discussed "Successes and Challenges
in Industrial Energy Efficiency and Sustainability".

Over 75 participants attended SP's 4th Quarter Meeting
On November 16, 2010, SP held its 4th Quarter
Membership Meeting at Chrysler World Headquarters in Auburn
Hills, MI. Special thanks to Chrysler Group LLC and
DENSO International America for hosting the
meeting.
Kim Korth, President, IRN Inc., gave a presentation on the
New Economic Reality of the Automotive Industry including
a review of the macroeconomic environment, specific outlook
for the automotive industry, and key issues for suppliers.
Bill McElnea, International Economist, Office of Trade Policy
Analysis, Department of Commerce gave a presentation on Commerce's
Sustainable Manufacturing Initiative (SMI) and a planned Sustainable
Manufacturing American Regional Tour (SMART): "Energy
Efficienct, Sustainable Detroit".
The Membership Meeting also included presentations from SP
members Chrysler Group LLC, DENSO
International and BAE Industries;
updates on SP’s Work Group activities – including
Chemical Issues, Energy, Materials Efficiency and, Technology
and Networking; and an update on the Michigan By Product Synergy
Initiative. Following the membership meeting, SP held the
first meeting of its Energy and Water Utility Managers Forum.

August 11, 2010, SP held its 3rd Quarter Membership Meeting
at the Johnson Controls Holland Technology Center in Holland,
MI. Special thanks to Randy Leslie, Fran Elenbaas
and Robin You, Johnson Controls
for their efforts in organizing and hosting this meeting.
The meeting opened with a presentation from Jennifer
Johnson and James Bos, JCI
on one of the company's environmental sustainability initiatives.
The meeting also featured guest presentations from: Brad
Cumming, Environment Canada, on
"Canada’s Chemicals Management Plan and its
Impact on the Automotive Sector"; and, John
Mizroch, Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich &
Rosati, on "Government Funding Opportunities
for Sustainable Technology Development & Manufacturing".
In addition, the meeting included updates from SP's Chemical
Issues, Energy, Materials Efficiency and Technology &
Networking Work Groups, as well as a roundtable on current
and emerging issues in the automotive industry.

June 23, 2010, SP hosted an open breakfast meeting focused
on "What Public Resources are Available to Manufacturing
and How to Access Them?" at the General Motors Warren
Tech Center Vehicle Engineering Building (VEC). Many thanks
to SP's Membership Development Co-Chairs Adam Westerdale,
General Oil Company and Robin Richey,
General Motors, for their efforts in organizing
this meeting.

2nd Quarter Membership Meeting
On April 28, 2010, SP held its 2nd Quarter Membership Meeting
at the General Motors Knowledge Center in Warren, MI. Special
thanks to Vickie Lewis, VMX International, Jerry Singh,
RTI Laboratories and Robin Richey, GM
for their efforts in organizing and hosting this meeting.
The meeting opened with a presentation from Fred
Hoffman, Special Advisory to the Governor for Economic
Development and Special Projects, on Governor Granholm's Economic
Development Activities. The meeting also included updates
from SP's Work Groups and presentations from SP member companies
VMX International, RTI Laboratories, Green Tree Products
& Technologies and the State Government
of Victoria (Australia).
In addition, General Motors presented its
5th annual Environmental Excellence Award to Gage
Products, a founding member of SP. Gage was recognized
for its work with GM to recycle and reuse purge solvent and
the company's commitment to help "green" the automotive
supply chain.

SP Adds 5 New Member Companies To Its Membership

The Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP) announced
that five companies have joined the organization: AGS
Technology Inc., Arcalis Scientific, LLC,
Green Tree Products & Technologies LLC,
Lear Corporation and TestAmerica
Laboratories, Inc. In addition, the State
Government of Victoria, Australia, has joined SP
as a liaison member.

On March 3, SAE held a "Green Engineering and Technology
Transfer Workshop" which featured several SP members
as speakers, including: Pat Beattie, Arcalis Scientific;
John Bradburn, GM; Dave O'Ryan, Asset Recovery; Tom Murray,
EPA; and, Andy Hobbs,
Ford. The workshop examined existing "green"
centers that might serve as models for a Michigan Green
Innovation & Technology Transfer Center and explored
several areas that could be the focus of a green center
for the automotive industry. SP's Executive Director,
Steve Hellem attended the workshop on behalf
of SP.

SP Announces 2010 Executive Committee: SP to be
Led by Randy Leslie, Johnson Controls, Inc.
The Suppliers Partnership for the Environment (SP) has
announced its new Executive Committee for 2010. Chairing
the SP Executive Committee for 2010 will be Randy Leslie,
Vice President and General Manager, Johnson Controls, Inc,
Automotive Experience. "I am pleased that the SP membership
has selected me to serve as the Chair of the Executive Committee.
SP is a progressive partnership that brings together environmentally-minded
companies in an effort to improve environmental sustainability.
SP will continue to be an innovator in the automobile industry,
and I am honored to be selected to help lead SP in 2010"

Rubber & Plastics News Webinar Featured SP on
August 12, 2009
On August 12, 2009, SP was featured in a webinar hosted by
Rubber and Plastics News. Tom Murray, U.S. EPA led off the
discussion on the Green Suppliers Network and Steve Hellem,
SP made a presentation on SP during the webinar. Steve highlighted
SP's Work Group activities including the M-A-S Program of
the Chemical Issues Work Group that is now moving forward
to address external wear parts including tires and brake linings.
Over 129 participants from US and around the world attended
the webinar. The presentations will be available on the archive
sites of the Rubber & Plastics News web site starting
August 14. In addition, all the presentations from the Rubber
& Plastics News Webinar on August 12 are available here.
